Abstract

542,053. Moulding abrasive wheels. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 11, 1940, No. 14107. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1939. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A cutting-off wheel consists of a metal disc 10 formed with a thin tapering periphery 13 to which is applied an abrading annulus 31 consisting of metal-bonded diamonds. The periphery may be formed on the faces with indendations 17, 18 and on the edge with notches. The metal bond may consist of the metals referred to in Specifications 479,703, 479,789 and 479,790 and U.S.A. Specification 1,625,463. A mould, Fig. 3, for applying the abrading annulus comprises a ring 24, mould-plates 20, and pressing-rings 25 between which a powdered metal-diamond mixture 32 is charged. To enhance the pressure, the rings 25 are formed with pressure receiving faces 30 of greater area than the pressing-surfaces 29. After removal of the wheel from the mould, the abrading-annulus is sintered.
