[Classes 60 and 124] A. crushing roller for shaping the operative surfaces of grinding or abrading wheels has the periphery composed of hard and soft parts so as to combine capacity for loading with abrasive and durability. The roller may consist of hard and soft segments a, b, Figs. 1 and 2, arranged alternately, or hard and soft laminae a' b<1>, Fig. 5. The laminae may be formed or semicircular plates, the hard and soft ones alternating axially or spirally, and gaps may be left betwen the ends of the plates for the escape of grit whilst dressing a wheel. The plates or segments are located circumferentially by pins i and are clamped axially by nuts f and flanges. e.
