472,786. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1936, No. 32155. Convention date, June 27. [Class 100 (iii)] Trimming type-bars.-In arrangements in which both of the trimming-knives are laterally adjustable, for example, to permit of the passage of slugs having overhanging characters, the left-hand knife is urged to its operative position by springs, and can be withdrawn by means of an adjustable inclined surface movable in a direction substantially at rightangles to the knife edge. The left-hand knife b, Fig. 1, is displaceable in a guide d, Fig. 2, and is urged towards the right-hand knife a by springs f, the movement being limited by adjustable stops g. The knife b can be retracted by a slider i having at one end a bevelled nose-piece n, which engages behind a stud o on the knife. The slider i is operated by a hand-lever.
