471,852. Change - speed gearing; clutches. POTTS, H. E. (Monopower Corporation) Dec. 10, 1935, No. 13516/37. Divided out of 471,797, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 11, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Class 80 (ii)] The subject-matter is the same as that of Specification 471,797, but the claim is directed to the fact that one of the driving plates of the second-speed multi-plate clutch is fixed to or capable of only a limited angular movement relative to the driving member of the one-way clutch through which the plate-clutch is driven, the remaining driving plates being fixed to the driven member of the one-way clutch. Thus, it is pointed out, when the plate-clutch is disengaged, positive rotation of its driving and driven plates at different speeds is avoided, whilst, when the plate-clutch is engaged, the clutching action of the single plate is available for locking the one-way clutch to transmit engine-braking torque.
