363,522. Change-speed gearing. HIRST, T. E. C., Almora House, Leyland Road, Penwortham, near Preston. Jan. 13, 1931, No. 1102. [Class 80 (ii).] Change - speed gearing comprises nested or coaxiallyarranged plate clutches C1, C2, C3 with springs to hold. each clutch in engagement, in combination with a manual selective control shaft P with cams O which hold all the clutches disengaged except the one selected to be engaged. Thus when clutch C1 is left free to be engaged by its springs, the drive is from driving flywheel B through clutch disc F1 to driven shaft G3 direct. When clutch C2 is engaged, the drive is through disc F2, sleeve G, and countershaft gears R1, T1 to gear U1, fast on the shaft G3. A gear W slides so as to receive low forward speed or reversed drive. There is a thrust ring L for disengaging each of the plate clutches.
