Abstract

470,981. Cutting tobacco, paper, &c. LEGG, O. Feb. 28, 1936, No. 6013. [Class 5 (i)] Means for feeding sheet material, such as leaf tobacco or paper, to cutting-apparatus comprises a conveyer belt 1, a series of vertically mounted rollers 3 arranged along each side of the belt, and means for rotating one or more of the rollers to act upon the material in the same direction as the belt, the rollers being arranged to form a funnel shaped channel. A heavy roller 5, the trunnions of which can rise or fall in slots 6 in side plates 4, presses on the material adjacent to the cutting position. The roller 5 may be positively driven to assist the feed movement. The cutting is effected on a ledger plate 2, and the front edges of the side plates 4 are slightly inclined to provide a sloping guide face for the cutter. Plates 8 hang from the trunnions of the roller 5 and are joined by a plate 7 which rests on the material between the roller 5 and the cutter, the plate 7 also acting as a scraper for the roller 5. Pins on the plates 6 project into the slots 6 and position the plate 7.
