[Class 5 (i)] [See also Group II] A machine for slicing grain com prises amovable per forated sheet, a feed er and a rotatable member carrying knives spaced fron the perforated sheet the perforated shee being disposed be low the feeder and moving at a slower speed than but in the same direction as the knife carry ing member. Grain is fed from a hoppe 9 by means of a feeding drum 10 on to distributers 11, 12 whence it falls on to a rotary perforated drum 1 inside which knives 6, carried on a supporting drum 3, rotate ; grooves 14 provided on the drum 3 below the knife edges receive the cut slices. The ribs of the drum 1 are bevelled on the entrance side as shown in Fig. 3, projecting pins 8 on a roller 7 engage the perforations before the latter reach the feeder and a stationary knife 4 is provided on the side of the feeder at which the drum leaves the feeder. To adjust the slice thickness, the eccentricity of the drums 1, 3 is adjustable.
