Abstract

655,695. Cutting and slicing chaff &c. KALMAN, J. Sept. 2, 1948, Nos. 23150/48 and 3405/49. [Class 5(i)] A machine for cutting fodder and silage in which moving knives cooperate with fixed knives has a side delivery opening through which the cut material is ejected by centrifugal force. A hopper 12 is attached to a drum 13 mounted on a frame 14 and provided with a delivery opening 15. A series of stationary cutter blades 17 arranged in rows round the inner surface of the drum extends along the whole or part axial length of the drum, Each blade 17 is adjustably mounted in a holder 18 fixed to the drum. Coaxially mounted in the drum is a hollow shaft 19 carrying cutters 20 adapted to coact with the stationary cutters when the shaft is revolved. Material fed into the hopper 12 is carried by the rotating cutters 20 to the stationary cutters and after being cut the material is ejected by centrifugal force through the opening 15. Several constructions of cutter blades are shown. The surface of these cutters may be undulated, corrugated, or fluted and the stationary cutters may be U-shaped in section and have serrated cutting edges between which the moving cutters pass. The stationary cutters adjacent the delivery opening may be elongated in the direction of rotation to form channels through which the rotating cutters carry the cut material.
