Abstract

1426785 Cutting apparatus IMPERIAL GROUP Ltd 9 Aug 1974 [1 Sept 1973] 41238/73 Heading B4B Apparatus for cutting a moving web of material, e.g. sheet tobacco or plastics, comprises a roller 10 having peripheral grooves 11 which communicate with suction holes for retaining the material on the roller, a series of cutting discs rotatably mounted so as to enter the grooves 11 and cut the material into longitudinal strips, and transfer means 16, 27 to remove and direct the cut strips from the roller to a cutter which transversely cuts the strips into shorter lengths. The cutting discs are mounted on a shaft 15 which is rotatable in a frame 22 pivotably mounted in order to adjust the penetration of the cutting discs into the grooves 11. The transverse cutter comprises two or more cutting blades 18 secured to a rotatable support 30, the cutters co-operating with a fixed blade 17 the co-operating blades having scalloped edges. The roller 10 which may be heated, and shaft 15 are rotated by a single motor 33 via chain-drives 34-37.
