1355877 Gutting J M CANALS and R M CANALS 23 June 1971 [23 June 1970] 29505/71 Heading B4B A machine for cutting and winding up webs of sheet material 55, e.g. fabric, comprises two guide rollers 7, 8 between which the material 55 passes, a conveyer belt 22 for the material 55, a third roller 13a for supporting the belt 22, two cylinders 16, 17 for co-operating with the belt 22 to wind the material 55, slitting, blades 19, at least some of which are adjustable transversely of the sheet feeding path by screw means 18, and means 33 for moving at least one guide roller 7, 8 axially to correct for lateral displacement of the material 55 being fed. Material 55, either as a roll supported on a bar 4 or as a folded stack, Fig. 1 (not shown), in a frame 1 is fed beneath a cutter support beam 20, and is collected after cutting as a roll 59, supported between the cylinder 17 and the belt 22 backed by the cylinder 16. Three blades 19 may be provided, and for edge trimming a central blade 19 is raised out of operative position in guides 36 of a casing 34. With all blades 19 in operative position, the material is cut into two strips of width governed by the screw means 18, which includes portions of opposite hand, engaging nuts 47 of the outer casings 34, and rotatable by means of a hand wheel 57. A screw 49 of each casing 34 adjustably abuts against the crossbeam 20, which is provided with graduations visible through respective sights 51 for blade positioning. Axial movement of the guide rollers 7, 8 is effected by a hand crank 33 acting on a toothed portion of a roller shaft 6, and in a modification (not shown), this movement may be effected automatically by contact or photoelectric sensing means following the edges of the material.
