Abstract

1428133 Document shredders Z BRIERLEY 21 Aug 1973 [24 July 1972] 34442/72 Heading B2A A document shredder comprises feed means (viz rollers 17, 18, Figs. 1, 2) for a sheet to be comminuted and fixed and movable cutters 20, 23 each of which has an undulatory edge, e.g. with V- or U-shaped notches 22, 25, Fig. 3. The cutters produce transverse notched strips. By varying the speed of the feed rollers very narrow strips which crumble are produced. The shreds are collected in a container 40, Fig. 1. The shredder may be motor-driven and may include a variable gearbox and an overload clutch. The feed rollers have resilient surfaces and the upper roller 17 is resiliently loaded. The blade 23 comprises a twisted strip 24 secured to bosses 26. Envelope slitting cutters 43, 44 are provided at ends of the feed roller spindles 29, 30. In modifications, the cutter can be independently driven, it can bee.g. reciprocatory, and the shredder may be manually operated.
