Abstract

784,012. Disintegrating wood pulp sheets. HERCULES POWDER CO. July 20, 1955, [Oct. 4, 1954], No. 21065/55. Class 96. [Also in Group IX] Wood pulp sheets 36 are fed by a variablespeed roller 44 and idler roller 46, to an anvil plate 42 which, with an upper clamping plate 50, is inclined upwardly, so that radial shearing faces of a shredding drum 22 shear and tear portions 36a from the sheets 36 and also split them in the plane of the sheets. Fan blades in the drum 22 assist in forcing air &c. through slots or grooves 34 to cool the shearing edges and prevent choking the drum 22. The plate 50 has guide fingers 50a extending backwardly through grooves in the roll 46. Shredded fragments are collected in a receptacle 54. Specification 463,437, [Group XXIII], is referred to.
