Folding paper.-In folding-machines employing a buckling-plate 1, the plate, 1 can be adjusted to different angular positions relatively to the line of feed of the sheets so as to deal with paper of different thicknesses. The plate 1 is supported adjacent to the feeding-rollers 3, 6 by means of studs 18 on the main framing engaging inclined slots 17 in brackets 16 fixed to the ends of the plate. Adjacent to the rear end of the plate 1 are two curved pillars 22 provided with a series of spaced holes 25 arranged eccentrically to an arc 26 having the studs 18 as centre. Setscrews 27 passing through selected holes 25 and into the plate 1 secure the plate at the required inclination according to the thickness of the paper to be dealt with. The inclination of the slot 17 and the deviation of the holes 25 from the are 26 cause the arcuate nose 2 of the upper member of the plate 1 to remain at the level of the line of feed when the inclination of the plate 1 is small, and the machine is dealing with thin paper, but when the plate 1 is raised to deal with thicker paper, the nose 2 is also slightly raised so as to lessen friction. During all the movements the extreme end of the nose 2 remains in close proximity to the roller 6. The lower member 8 of the plate 1 can be adjusted relatively to the upper member by means of a screw-and-slot connection 9, 10 so that its lower end 11 extends the desired distance below the level of the feed. In a modified construction, a series of blocks having their upper surfaces inclined at various angles corresponding to the holes 25 are provided, the plate is secured to the block having the. required inclination, and the block is removably secured to the ma.in frame.
