Abstract

470,354. Fuel pumps. EXACTOR CONTROL CO., Ltd., and PARKIN, W. H. March 4, 1936, No. 6600. [Class 102 (i)] A pump, primarily intended for priming an internal-combustion engine, comprises a diaphragm pump 6, which is moved on its discharge stroke by a liquid column in a cylinder 13 and pipe 12 acted on by a handoperated plunger 15. A port 16, uncovered by the plunger in its upper position, permits the entrance of make-up liquid and also permits expansion of the liquid column. The suction stroke of the plunger is effected by a spring 10, and the pump draws through a valve 3 and discharges through a valve 4. Suction of liquid through the pump when the pump is stationary is prevented by means of a valve 8, which is held on to its seating by the spring 10 and is opened by the movement of the diaphragm. The pump may be operated through a dash-pot from the engine throttle, in order to enrich the mixture on sudden opening of the throttle.
