Abstract

A compound roller comprises a sleeve having a white martensitic structure and a core having a graphitic structure containing martensitic mixed crystals in an amount corresponding to that in the sleeve structure, whereby it is ensured that during cooling there are no stresses between the core and sleeve which would result in cracks. The sleeve may consist for example of a cast iron alloy containing 3,6 per cent of carbon, 4,5 per cent of manganese, 2,5 per cent of nickel, and 1,5 per cent of chromium, and the core alloy may contain 2-3,5 per cent of carbon, 2-5 per cent of silicon, and 5-15 per cent of manganese, with or without 0,1-8 per cent of nickel.
