466,717. Vehicle hoods. ABBEY COACHWORKS, Ltd., and INGRAM, C. J. Dec. 2, 1935, Nos. 33339/35 and 26627/36. [Class 108 (i)] A vehicle hood comprises a rear rigid hinged portion and a forward holding portion, the folding or unfolding of which is caused by the lowering or raising of the rigid rear portion. The rigid rear portion comprises a panelled portion a having a large window and hinged at each side by means of an extension b to a bracket c mounted in the body. The folding front portion of the hood comprises a pillar e hinged at e<1> to the bracket c, a two-part cant rail d<1>, d<2>, a front cross rail f, a cross bow i connected to the cant rail as shown and also by a link k to an extension l of a hinged rear stay m, and an extension g of the cant rail which is connected to the lever h. The rear portion a and forward folding portion are further connected by a link n connecting an extension m<1> of the stay m to the pillar e and a linkage p, o, q connecting the lever h with the extension b. Floating hoops v and flexible cover s are provided. Lowering of the portion a causes the folding of the front portion by means of the linkage p, o, and link n as shown in Fig. 2. The hood may be operated by mechanical means comprising a cross shaft to which lever arms are connected at its ends, the arms being connected to the rigid portion a by flexible straps and also to springs to facilitate manipulation.
