Abstract

462,516. Coal-distillation apparatus. KRETZ, T. July 17, 1936, No. 19816. Convention date, July 17, 1935 [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] In a coke oven in which the charge space lies between comparatively closely located internally heated walls, the latter are fixed and the coke chamber is provided with two walls between which the coal lies, these walls being adjustable relatively to each other to assist discharge of the coke. A radiation space from which the distillates are excluded is left between each of said walls and its corresponding heating- wall. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the stationary heating walls 1 enclose spaces into which are lowered charge containing chambers 8 formed by plates 11, 12 which can be opened for discharge of the coke from the side. These boxlike chambers are supported on the heating walls by projections 13, and have outlets 14 for the distillates leading to a common receiver 15. The heating gases pass from a flue 4 through heating passages 3 around baffles 2 to a discharge flue 5. In another form, Fig. 4, the heating walls 1 are enclosed in casings 16 forming the walls 11, 12 bounding the charge. These casings are moved relatively to the heating walls so as to vary the charge space, and facilitate discharge, and this is done by suspending the casings 16 by supports 17 from arms 19 which may be rocked by external shafts. An outlet 36 for the distillates is provided. Sheet metal plates may be arranged between the heating walls, and, at the end of the coking period may be moved to facilitate discharge of the coke. The wall plates may be pivoted as a whole, or in sections as in a venetian blind.
