Abstract

458,952. Friction clutches. ROPER & WREAKS, Ltd., and HEARD, P., 112, Arundel Street, Sheffield. Nov. 23, 1935, No. 32516. [Class 80 (ii)] The presser plate 3 of a plate clutch has secured to its inner periphery an inwardly - extending heatradiating annulus 2 of aluminium or other good heat-conducting material, the inner edge 6 of the annulus being curved away from the driven clutch plate. The annulus is secured to the plate 3 by the radial bolts 4 which provide a sliding and driving connection between the plate 3 and the driving casing 5. The annulus serves to prevent overheating of the clutch springs 7 and also to prevent oil from reaching the facings of the driven plate. Alternatively, or in addition, there is disposed within each spring 7 a tube 8 which has an outward flange 9 interposed between the plate 3 and the end of the spring and which extends through and to the outside of the casing 5, where it may be perforated &c. to increase the radiation of heat.
