Abstract

394,157. Yielding couplings ; friction clutches. WÍRNER, H., 28, Am Kreuzstein, Bischofsheim, and FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES., Schweinfurt-on-Main, both in Germany. Aug. 6, 1932, No. 22140. [Class 80 (ii).] In yielding couplings or spring drives of the type comprising tangential helical springs housed in aligned openings in driving and driven discs and acting through bearing- plates provided with means for centring the springs and for preventing friction of the plates on the outer edges of the openings when the springs yield, the bearing-plates are formed in one piece of sheet metal. As applied to a motor-vehicle clutch, a disc 6 with an attached ring 5 is rotatably mounted between rings 3 secured to the flanged hub 1, the parts 3, 5, 6 having aligned openings 7 for compression springs 8 and their bearing-plates 9. The plates 9 have centring-nipples 10 and extensions bent at an obtuse angle a to lie against the similarly-inclined outer edges of the openings. The extensions are further bent to form tongues 11 which, with inwardly-directed tongues 12, lie between the rings 3 to prevent rotation of the bearing-plates. Due to the angle alpha, the outer faces of the extensions recede from the relatively-moving outer edges of the openings 7 when the plates 9 are lifted from the ends of the openings as the springs yield.
