Abstract
457,480. Variable-speed chain gearing. CYCLO GEAR CO., Ltd., and CAMILLIS, L., Potters Hill, Aston, Birmingham. May 30, 1935, No. 15696. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] In variable-speed driving-mechanism for cycles &c. of the type comprising a multiple sprocket 3, 4, 5 and a chain 6<1>, which is shifted laterally by means of a jockey sprocket 6 slidably mounted on a shaft 10 and is maintained taut by a spring-controlled tensioning-arm 9 pivoted on the shaft 10, the chain 6<1> passes around an anti-frictionally revolving disc 8 on the tension arm 9 and through a guiding eye or loop 18 extending beyond the periphery of the disc. The loop 18, Fig. 2, is substantially U-shaped, and its inner faces are of convex contour so as to reduce friction with the side links 25 of the chain, only the rollers 26 of the chain contacting with the periphery of the disc 8. The loop 18 is mounted on a stub axle 16 carrying the disc 8, and is angularly adjustable by means of a set-screw 23 and a nut 20.
