Abstract
457,275. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., ElectraHouse, Victoria Embankment, London, and WHISTLECROFT, A. W., 101, Beddington Lane, Croydon. May 24, 1935, No. 15168. [Class 40 (v)] An aerial, particularly one of the trailing type used on an aeroplane, is earthed at a point remote from the operator, and outside the fuselage of the machine, so as to minimize risk from lightning. As shown in Fig. 1, the aerial 5 makes contact with a metal cap 3 at the end of the fair-lead 1, and is earthed, when desired, by a metal point 6 which is brought into contact with the cap by pushing a remote control knob 13. Earthing takes place through a copper tape 15 connected through one of the clips 14 to the outside of the fuselage. In Fig. 4, the earthing-contact 6 is operated by a handle 21 conveniently placed near the top of the fair-lead.
