Abstract

456,510. Air-break switches. SHEVLIN, J. T., 15, South Street, Finsbury, London.- (Siemens-Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges.; Siemensstadt, Berlin) July 16, 1936, No. 19767. [Class 38 (v)] Interlocked switches.-In a pedestal-type power switch provided with two circuitbreakers, either of which is positively moved with the power-switch member, the circuitbreaker which is in the switched-out position is arranged to effect the positive coupling of the other breaker with the power-switch member. In the application to duplicate bus-bar systems, either breaker may be actuated to select the bus-bars desired. The shank 22 of the movable power-switch contact 21 has an aperture 23 containing a ball 24 adapted to co-operate with either of two recesses 25, 26 in driving members 13, 14. The latter have projections 30, 31 for engaging and driving the contact 21 against spring- action 29, and have pins 17, 18 taking in slots 19, 20 in switch arms 7, 8, which are pivoted at 5, 6 and co-operate with contacts 9, 10. In the position shown, the driver 14 is locking the contact 21 to driver 13 and by raising the rod 15, the pin 17 rotates 7 anti-clockwise to the open position and at the same time contact 21 is raised. By lowering the rod 15 from this position into the position shown, switch 7 is reclosed and 21 lowered, and further downward movement of 15 closes 21, the straight part of slot 19 permitting this. In this position the rod 16 can be lowered to close switch 8, and then either rod 15, 16 can be raised to open switch 7 or 8, the associated driver 13 or 14 leaving the contact 21 coupled to the other driver, so that its switch cannot be opened without first opening contact 21. A pedestal-type insulator 1 supports the entire structure. In a modification (not shown), height is saved by operating the switches by means of pins on the breakers engaging cam grooves in two driver discs rotatable about a common spindle. The contact 21 is operated by a disc located between the driver discs, which serve as stop surfaces to a ball located in a recess in the centre disc. Alternatively the cams may be formed on the breakers and the pins on the drivers.
