Abstract
552,181. Tumbler switches; switch covers. FUKE, F. C. Nov. 27, 1941, No. 15264. [Class 38 (v)] In order to ensure that a switch breaks only to a given distance of the order of 0.005 inch. two fixed contacts are spaced with the desired gap between, the switching being effected by a third movable contact, abutting against one of the fixed contacts when the switch is "on," while making good contact with the other. When "off " the moving contact retracts into or upon the second fixed contact. In the example shown, the fixed contacts a, b have the desired gap at c, and a third contact d screwing into contact a is advanced or retracted by rotation through the lever of a snap-action mechanism. Any snap-action mechanism may be used, but in one example, Fig. 3 (not shown), all the mechanism is secured to a shield or cover so as to dispense with usual insulating base.
