Abstract
In the production of aluminium chloride from metallic aluminium by means of dry hydrogen chloride gas, the process is carried out in the presence of aluminium chloride in a liquid mono- or poly-nuclear aromatic hydrocarbon or a corresponding partially hydrogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, or an aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted by an aromatic radicle, which is suitable for undergoing Friedel-Crafts synthesis. By simultaneously effecting a Friedel-Crafts reaction, such as the conversion of benzene with ethylene or ethyl chloride, both the formation of the aluminium chloride and the progress of the Friedel-Crafts synthesis are accelerated. The process may be carried out at a raised temperature, say, at 50--70 DEG C., and the aluminium chloride to facilitate the reaction may be introduced as an additive compound with for instance ethylene or styrol.ALSO:In the production of aluminium chloride from metallic aluminium by means of dry hydrogen chloride gas, the process is carried out in the presence of aluminium chloride in a liquid mono- or poly-nuclear aromatic hydrocarbon or a corresponding partially hydrogenated aromatic hydrocarbon, or an aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted by an aromatic radicle, which is suitable for undergoing Friedel-Crafts synthesis.
