Abstract

454,914. Controlling motor vehicles ; hydraulic transmission. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER, Arbon, Switzerland. May 5, 1936, No. 12672. Convention date, May 21, 1935. [Class 79 (v)] [See also Group XXIX] A hand-operated lever 1 controls the fuel supply of the engine from idle running to a maximum during one part AB of its range, and controls the vanes of a hydro-dynamic transmission gear driving the road wheels during the remainder BC of its range. In the construction shown the lever 1 operates a sliding rod 7 having a collar 8 abutted, in the mid position shown of the lever, by bellcranks 11, 12, controlled by springs 17, 18 and connected respectively to the fuel pump 23 of a Diesel engine and the pivoted vanes 27 of an hydraulic transformer. Adjustable stops 19, 20 limit the movements of the bellcranks. In the position shown the fuel supply, or the throttle opening, is at a maximum, and the vanes 27 are fully open. If the lever 1 is moved in the range BC, the collar 8 moves away from the bell-crank 11, leaving the fuel supply at its maximum, and rotates the bellcrank 12 and the vanes 27 to reduce the cross-sectional area through the vanes thereby increasing the vehicle speed. When the lever 1 is moved from the mid position in the range BA the collar 8 moves away from the bell-crank 12, leaving the vanes fully open, and rotates the bell-crank 11 to reduce the fuel supply to the idle running condition of the engine.
