973,613. Controlling motor vehicles. C.A.V. Ltd. Sept. 12, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 33798/61. Heading B7H. [Also in Division G3] An hydraulic governor (see Division G3) allows an I.C. engine to run at a higher speed when driving a vehicle through intermediate gears than when driving it in top or overdrive top gear by the provision of a valve 32 which is opened by a solenoid 33 only when the intermediate gears are engaged. The solenoid is controlled by a switch operable by the gear shift mechanism. Opening of the valve 32 places an adjustable orifice 30 in parallel with an orificed piston 13 so that an engine-driven governor pump 6 has to run at a higher speed to produce a given effect on a servopiston 8 actuating the usual regulating means of a fuel injection pump.
