Abstract
1,240,918. Controlling vehicles. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. 16 Dec., 1969 [15 Jan.' 1969], No. 61366/69. Heading B7H. The speed of an engine driven truck which performs a lifting or tipping function, e.g. a fork lift truck has a control system which permits the driving of a pump for the lifting &c. function without varying the speed of the truck. As shown, a fork lift truck is driven by wheels 106 driven by a hydrostatic motor 118 supplied through a manoeuvring valve 119 by a variable displacement pump 27 controlled by a servovalve 10 and driven by an engine 30 which also drives fixed displacement pumps 1 and 26. At idling speed of the engine, pump 1 supplies a predetermined amount of oil to a control valve 4 creating a back pressure in a line 2, thereby causing a cylinder 12 to nearly close carburetter butterfly 13. An accelerator 15 increases engine speed by opening an orifice 5 in the valve 4, thereby decreasing pressure in cylinder 12 which causes butterfly 13 to open and so increase engine speed. When operation of the lift is required at maximum speed while driving the truck at low speed, a handle 22 is actuated from right to left to supply oil from the pump 26 to lift cylinder 116 and to bleed line 7 through the lift valve 8, thus causing an increase in engine speed by operation of butterfly 13. The servo valve 10 decreases the displacement of pump 20 to compensate for the increase in engine speed, such that truck speed is not increased.
