Abstract
345,331. Controlling speed of motor vehicles. BROWN, G. D., Dowery, Nantwich, and MATTHEWS, R. K., Moorsfield House, Audlem, both in Cheshire. Dec. 17, 1929, No, 38645. [Class 57.] In a means for controlling the maximum speed of a motor vehicle, a centrifugal governor operates to vary the connection between the accelerator and the engine throttle. The governor 4 is driven at a speed proportional to the vehicle and has attached to its moving sleeve a piston 14 provided with a needle valve 23 adapted to seat in the wall of cylinder 5 wherein two opposed pistons 19, 21 operate separated by a fluid link. The rod 18 is attached to the accelerator and the rod 20 to the throttle valve. Upon increase in speed the movement of the piston 14 decreases the fluid link in cylinder 5 thereby closing the throttle valve. In modifications the same effect is obtained by causing the governor to operate on right- and lefthand threads, or cams or the pivot of a lever.
