Abstract

451,489. Machine guns. FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE SOC. ANON., Herstal, Liege, Belgium. Aug. 21, 1935, Nos. 7970/36 (divided application), and 7971/36 (divided application). Convention dates, Aug. 21, 1934 and Sept. 28, 1934. [Class 92 (ii)] To permit of readily dismounting the barrel 18 from the breech casing 26 a ring 35 is rotatable on the rear end of the barrel by a handle 40 and has external interrupted threads 36 for engagement with corresponding internal threads on the breech casing. The handle, shown in the unlocking position, has a spring catch 41 which rides over a series of notches on the front of the breech casing to fix the ring in the locking position. Further, the interrupted threads are of slightly greater pitch than the threads 34 by which the ring is connected to the barrel so that, in locking, the barrel face is forced against the breech face. At the end of unlocking, the handle arm 45 engages a ramp on the breech face to force the barrel forwards. The barrel is guided on the casing of the gas cylinder by lateral vertical faces 48 and by horizontal surfaces 49, 51. The handle serves for carrying the barrel or the entire gun.
