Abstract

449,507. Exhaust and like silencers. KURTH, A., 16, Florianigasse, Vienna. Dec. 27, 1935, No. 35830. [Class 7 (ii)] A silencer for exhaust and other pulsating gases and vapours comprises a straight-through duct d wholly or partly covered with soundabsorbing material a provided with a number of transverse channels or holes c in which the gases expand. The whole device is arranged in a receptacle b, and the channels c may be of uniform length, or of different lengths and diameters. An air space e, Fig. 4, may be provided between the outside of the material a and the receptacle b, and a baffle g may be fitted at the front end of the device. The sound-absorbing material may consist of glass wool, mineral wool, magnesia, asbestos, &c. combined with a binding-agent ; for example, glass wool may be combined with gelatine, silicates, &c., or in silencers for cold gases, with rubber emulsion. Specifications 4843 /87, [Class 7], and 312,937, [Class 7 (ii)], are referred to.
