Abstract

448,837. Liquid, gaseous, &c. pulverulent fuel furnaces. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 15, 1936, No. 1322. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1935. [Class 51 (i)] Air is supplied to a furnace bv a nozzle 22 through which passes an axial stream of air surrounded by an annular whirling stream. The nozzle is particularly applicable to furnaces of the kind described in Specification 440,266 in which the air stream is delivered in the opposite direction to the fuel. The air for combustion is supplied to the chamber 23, 24 below the nozzle through a pipe 21 and after passing through perforated partitions 30, 31, 32, 33 enters the nozzle axially through an aperture 44 in a plate 36. Air also passes between the plates 34, 35, 36 spaced apart by inclined vanes 45, 46 which cause the air to whirl in opposite directions before entering the nozzle through the apertures 42, 43 in the plates 34, 35.
