Abstract
448,695. Hand - operated multiple - toothed clippers. EDWARDS, E. E., and SMITH, A. H., 1, Cullum Street, Lime Street, London. Dec. 7, 1934., No. 35238. [Class 131] [See also Group I] A machine for cutting grass, hedges, &c. comprises a base-plate 2 on which are mounted a handle 27, a set of fixed knives 1, a set of pivoted knives 10 co-operating with the fixed knives, a pivoted bell-crank lever forming an operating handle 28 and a toothed quadrant 29, a pinion 31 meshing with the quadrant, a link 32 eccentrically connected to the pinion, and a lever 14 pivotally connected to the link and to a cross-bar 13 to which the ends of the movable knives 10 are pivotally connected. The gearing may be such that one stroke of the handle 28 causes one and a half revolutions of the pinion 31. The base-plate 2 is provided with a runner plate bearing on the ground, and the movable knives are pressed down by springs 24.
