379,866. Lawn-trimmers. ROWE, J. C., 78, Murray Street, Caulfield, Victoria, Australia. Sept. 14, 1931, No. 25708. [Class 6 (ii).] In lawn edge trimmers comprising a ground wheel 16, frame 10, fixed and movable shear blades 19, 19a, and a pinion 18 engaging teeth 17 on the interior of the wheel 16, the pinion being connected to operate the movable blade 19a, cheeks 12 on the frame have holes 14 in selected pairs whereof the ground wheel axle 15 is supported so as to adjust the height of the frame and shears. The axle 18a of the pinion 18 may carry cam members 20, 23 respectively for closing and opening the blades. The cam 20 has striking faces adapted intermittently to engage a roller 21 on an arm 21a attached to the blade 19a and the cam 23 has intermediate striking faces adapted to engage an arm 24. A pin 25 attached to the blade 19a slides in a slot 24c in the arm 24 which is pivoted to the frame. A volute spring 22 may be provided between the blades to assist opening. The movable blade is pressed towards the fixed blade by an adjustable screw. The block 19a may be driven from the axle 18a by a crank or the axle may carry an eccentric with its strap having an arm coupled to the blade. A free-wheel device may be provided. The teeth 17 may be shrouded and the mechanism enclosed in a cover.
