Abstract

414,924. Reaping &c. machines. BORDAS, L., Caspe 156, Barcelona, Spain. Oct. 18, 1933, No. 28847. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1932. [Class 6 (iii).] A hand - actuated reaping or harvesting machine comprises a rake like member 10 that is slotted to take a flat cutting blade 11 secured at its ends by pivots to two swinging arms 31, 32 carried by short vertical shafts on the frame of the machine. The arm 31 is secured to its vertical shaft 30, a second arm 29 also being secured to the shaft and adapted to be rocked through connections 28 to a crank 26 driven through multiplying gear from a hand operated chain wheel mounted on the handle of the machine. The height of the handle may be varied. A deflector 35 for the crop may be arranged on the outer end of the cutting mechanism ; this deflector may carry a skeleton wire extension. Sheet protectors may be provided over the transmission mechanism. In a modification the cutter is driven through a shaft and pinion mechanism instead of through chain and sprocket gear.
