422,730. Mowing-machines. BRUSATI, G., 42, Via G. Verdi, Piacenza, Italy. Nov. 8, 1933, No. 31099. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 9, 1934.] [Class 6 (iii)] In a mowing-machine the crank by which the knives are reciprocated is mounted on the cutter bar and is driven through a universal joint from the usual driving mechanism. The main axle 2, which is driven differentially by pawl and ratchet mechanism from the main wheels 1, drives an inclined shaft 15 through gears 8 ... 11 and a clutch 13 that are enclosed in a gear box 12. The transmission shaft 15 is connected through a universal joint 26 with a bevel gear 24 meshing with a gear 25 on a shaft carrying a crank 29 to which the connecting rod 30 driving the knife bar is attached. The knife bar is provided with holding-down clips and with rear wearing plates. The attachment of the connecting rod and knife bar is through a slide 31 reciprocating in guides 33 in a box on the cutter bar. A shoe 42 and swath board 43 are mounted at the outer end of the cutter bar. A hand lever 21 or a screw and nut device is provided to adjust the inclination of the fingers and the cutter bar may be swung up for transport the clutch being disconnected automatically when this is done.
