Abstract
504,391. Mowing-machines. JAMES, C. J. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29298. [Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A motor-driven, wheeled vehicle of the type in which the vehicle is driven from the motor crank-shaft which extends rearwardly from the motor 1 has an extension 3 arranged at the forward end of the ahaft from which extension the reciprocating knife bar of a mowing- machine, attached to the front of the vehicle, is driven. The extension shaft 3 drives, through a clutch 7, a sprocket wheel 3a actuating, through a chain and a co-operating sprocket wheel, a countershaft 5 mounted on the chassis and on a frame or bracket 4 secured, preferably detachably, to the front of the chassis. The countershaft 5 carries a crank disc 13 by which the connecting rod 14 to the knife bar is actuated. The shoe 8 of the mower has a sleeve connection with a transverse bar 9 attached by a pivot 10 to the far side of the bracket and bent back to form a stay bar 12. The mower may be rocked about the bar 9 to adjust the height of the cut by a rod 15 pivoted to an arm 15a projecting from the shoe. The mower may be lifted as a whole about the pivot 10 by a hand lever 11 connected by adjustable links 11a to the shoe.
