Abstract

485,778. Mowing - machines. COLES, C. C. Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2628. [Class 6 (iii)] A power driven mowing-machine comprises a tractor member having a transmission shaft 2 extending rearwardly and carrying a gear wheel 13 to which it is adapted to be clutched by an operating handle 16 acting through a spring member to provide a yielding connection. The wheel 13 meshes with a spur wheel 12 on a shaft extending forwardly and downwardly directly below the shaft 2 and enclosed in a casing 1 supported by brackets 4 from the machine frame. The front end of the casing 1 has pivotally connected thereto the shoe 5 of the knife bar of the machine, this shoe also being connected by a pull rod 7 with the front axle of the machine and bv a brace to the rear frame. The forward end of the forwardly and downwardly inclined shaft carries the usual crank disc 8. The knife bar is raised by a chain 22 connected to a rack bar 19 engaged by a pinion on a shaft actuated by a handle 21. Specification 485,779, [Group XXXI], is referred to.
