Mowing-machines; potato-diggers. - A motortractor having two main driving-wheels near the front and a side steering-wheel at the rear is provided with attachments for digging potatoes, mowing, and ploughing, the digging and mowing apparatus being driven direct from the motor. The main wheels b, Fig. 1, are mounted beneath the motor c and are driven by roller chains t from a differential cross-shaft Q connected by spur-gearing with a parallel shaft l which is driven from the motor by a friction clutch g, a longitudinal shaft h, and reversing bevel-gearing k, J. Mowing-apparatus is carried by a tubular hanger w partially mounted on brackets X on the channel frame a and adjusted by means of lever mechanism Z, Z<1>, Z<2>, Z<3>. The crank-shaft for driving the cutter passes through the hanger wand is driven from the counter-shaft l by bevel-gearing, or by spur and bevel gearing as shown in Fig. 1. In another arrangement, the cutter is driven from an approximately horizontal crank-shaft which is driven from the shaft l through an inclined shaft and bevel gearing mounted within the hanger. To allow of slipping if the knife is obstructed, the gearing for driving the knife includes an adjustable friction clutch or a spring clutch consisting of two co-acting disks having inclined teeth. For raising potatoes, digging-forks are mounted on a rearwardly projecting longitudinal shaft driven from the countershaft l. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the mower-driving shaft is used. The cutting-apparatus is removed and the hanger w supported in the position shown by the bracket a<23>. The forks a<22> work in conjunction with a share a<24> which is adjusted by raising or lowering the steering-wheel c, or by means of a screw or rack and pinion. The wheel c is raised or lowered by means of a lever a<30>, a winding-drum a<29>, and a chain a<28> attached to a loose collar on the wheel standard a<25>. For ploughing, the mowing and digging apparatus is removed and a plough a<32>, Fig. 1, attached near the right side of the tractor. It is raised and lowered by means of a lever a<31>. Other implements or machines may be drawn by or driven from the tractor. Specifications 16333/09, 102,753, and 120,731 are referred to.
