Abstract

857,834. Lawn mowers. BERRY, H. W. Sept. 30, 1959 [Oct. 6, 1958], No. 31886/58. Class 6(1). A self propelled machine such as a mower is tethered to a carriage which is automatically moved forward once in each circuit of the machine. The cable 19 is attached to a lever 8 fixed on a shaft 4 on which is mounted a sprocket 5 connected by a chain 6 to a free wheel sprocket 7 on the shaft of the front wheels 2. When the lever 8 is moved forwardly the chain drive causes the wheels 2 to move, propelling the carriage forwardly. At the limit of its forward movement the lever 8 applies a brake to the wheels 2 through a link 12. Rearward movement of the lever 8 causes no movement of the carriage, a ratchet 16 on the rear wheels ensuring that the carriage will not move rearwardly.
