Mowing-machines.-The main frame 3 is mounted freely upon the axle 1 of the driving wheels 2 and carries at its rear extremity a motor 4 which actuates the axle 1 through a clutch 14, shaft 16, and worm gear 17. The shaft 16 carries at its forward end a crank disc 18 actuating the knife bar 12 through a pin 19 and rod 20. The knife bar is supported by a shoe 11 having a universal joint mounting on a lateral frame 9, means being provided to turn the shoe about its transverse pivot to set the knife-bar at the desired height of cut or to swing the knife-bar bodily from the ground about the longitudinal pivot when the forward part of the main frame is raised by the operation of a foot lever 27. When the mowing mechanism is raised a cam 36 engages a bell crank 37 and causes a clutch 39 in the shaft 16 to be thrown out thus stopping the actuation of the knife-bar. The drive to either of the main wheels may be stopped by the operation of hand levers 31. The main frame is connected by a pivot 40 near the axle 1 to a forward frame 22 supported by a guide wheed 23 and provided with steering handles 24 operated from a seat 30.
