Abstract

617,633. Hand shears. CAVES, T. J. Aug. 19, 1946, No. 24605. Convention date, July 12, 1945. [Class 30] Lawn shears comprise a pair of pivotally mounted blades operatively connected to an actuating mechanism for moving the blades together upon exertion of a downward pressure on a single elongated handle connected to the actuating mechanism. The blades 10, 11 are connected by a pivot pin 12 to which is connected a pressure plate 13 and a rigid bracket 14 which extends into a housing 15. The housing 15 is pushed downwards by a handle 16 against the pressure of a spring 19, the plate 13 acting as a bearing, and the actuating mechanism to close the blades 10, 11 comprises a double bell crank yoke lever 23 pivoted to the bracket 14 by a pin 24, and to the housing 15 by a pin 25 and is connected to the blades 10, 11 by a slot 27 in an extension lug 26 engaging a stud 21 on the blade 10 and a similar slot the other side engaging a stud on the blade 11. The plate 13 is preferably curved so that the height of the cut may be varied.
