A garden shears of the kind having a pair of handles 4, 5 operable from a standing position and to the lower end of which a pair of manually operated, pivotally interconnected blades 2, 3 operating in a horizontal plane are secured, is characterised by the provision of a forked bracket 7 between the limbs of which a roller 9 is mounted, the bracket having a square aperture which engages a square portion of the shank of the pivot pin 6 so as to be rigid with the lower blade.
