Abstract

930,390. Secateurs, shears &c. MITCHEL & KING Ltd. Nov. 6, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 38071/60. Class 30. Secateurs &c. comprise a cutting blade 16 co-operating with an anvil 22 which is pivotally mounted at 24 on the handle 10 and connected by a pin and slot connection 30, 28 to the handle 12 to provide a draw cut action as the cutting edge 18 of the blade approaches the surface 20 of the anvil. The handles are of U-section, pivotally connected by a pin or bolt 14 and are urged apart by a spring 32 located in the handle 12 and secured to extension 26 of the anvil. The pin 30 projects from an adjustable eccentric 34 so that the anvil can be adjusted to take up wear from sharpening of the blade, the pin being releasably locked in adjusted position by a nut and bolt. The blade is hollow ground on both sides and the blade and anvil are removable by unscrewing bolts 14, 40, 24 and the pin 30. The handles are partially covered by plastic sleeves 48 and a pivoted catch 42 on the handle 10 has a serrated edge 44 engaging a pin 46 on the handle 12 to hold the secateurs closed.
