Abstract
588,530. Shears. CADDY, S. C. Feb. 27, 1945, No. 4867. [Class 30] A pruning or like tool comprises two blades 9, 15 pivotally connected at 14, the blade 15 having a lug 17 fixed in a groove 4 of a handle 2, the blade 9 being secured externally of a handle 1 at 10, and a pivot supporting member 6 having a lug 5 which is integral with, or fixed in a groove 3 formed in, the handle 1, both handles 1, 2 terminating short of the pivot 14. The part of the blade 9 adjacent the grooves 3 is recessed and the member 6 is offset beyond the groove 3 so that the cutting plane of the blades is central of the handles. The blade 15 is recessed adjacent the member 6 to limit the opening of the tool. Both blades are offset in the plane of the tool and are shaped to hold the article being cut near the pivot. A spring device 25 holds the blades open.
