Abstract

571,429. Scissors and shears. CADDY, S. C. March 7, 1944, No. 4214. [Class 30] A pair of garden shears, tinman's snips or other scissors-like cutting tool has, near the fulcrum of the main blades, a pair of auxiliary blades for severing twigs, wire, &c., a jaw member being arranged in a plane parallel to and adjacent the auxilliary blades to guide the twig, &c., into cutting position. Fig. 1 shows a pair of garden shears, the blades 1, 2 of which have enlargements 3 provided with the auxilliary blades 6, 7. The blade 2 is, as usual, integral with its shank 8 but the blade 1 is connected by a bolt 10 with its shank 11 which is provided with a jaw-like head 13 in a plane parallel to but spaced from the blade 1, the jaw opening 14 guiding the twig, &c., into position between the blades 6, 7 and into a recess 16 at the inner end of the jaw. The blade fulcrum bolt 4 also passes through the head 13.
