Abstract

The hand tool is designed to cut and harvest hard stemmed produce such as raisin. It takes the form of scissors of which the two arms have an approximate L shape and can grip the stem once cut. Two branches (11,12) form the handle whilst two other branches (14,15) are used to mount complementary cutting faces. The two arms subtend an angle of between 60 and 150 degrees. A demountable interchangeable blade (16) may be mounted on one cutting branch whilst its counterpart carries a support (18) with a face parallel to the blade. The bottom (19) and top (18) faces of the respective cutting branches form jaws which grip the stem. The top face of the support may be fluted and the opening movement may be aided by a spring (22).

Manual tool for cutting and harvesting tough stalk agricultural products
The present invention relates to a manual tool for cutting and harvesting agricultural products with stems. leathery, in particular fruits such as for example grapes, comprising a handle constituted by two branches articulated with respect to each other, and carrying complementary cutting members.

There is already known a device of this type described in particular in French patent No. 79 26470, which relates to a manual tool arranged to be adapted to the hand performing the picking. In particular, it includes a revolver handle with a kind of trigger enabling the pliers and the cutting members to be maneuvered.

Although this tool is perfectly suited to the use for which it is intended, it has the disadvantage of comprising a relatively large number of mechanical parts which it is necessary to mount relative to each other, which results in a product relatively complex in design and costly to produce.

The present invention proposes to overcome this drawback by making a tool of the aforementioned type, of simple design, easily achievable and therefore of economical manufacture.

For this purpose, the tool according to the invention is characterized in that it also includes means for pinching and holding the fruit by its stem when the latter has been cut by the cutting members.

According to a preferred embodiment, each branch of the handle carries at one of its ends a spout whose axis forms with the axis of the handle an angle between 600 and 1500, the two spouts respectively carrying the complementary members cutting.

One of the spouts advantageously carries an interchangeable removable blade and the other spout carries a support piece comprising a surface parallel to the blade.

To allow the fruit stem to be pinched after cutting, each of the beaks preferably carries an additional jaw. One of the jaws is advantageously constituted by the support piece which opposes the cutting blade. At least one of the two jaws has a grooved surface which facilitates the gripping of the cut fruit stems.

The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of an embodiment and the accompanying drawing in which
FIG. 1 represents an elevation view of the tool according to the invention, in its closed position,
FIG. 2 represents a top view of the tool of FIG. 1,
Figure 3 shows a partial sectional view along the line
III-III of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 shows a view of the tool of Figure 1 in the open position.

The tool as shown in the figures essentially comprises a handle 10 constituted by two branches 11 and 12 articulated around a pivot axis 13. The two branches are curved and each have, at their ends, a beak 14, respectively 15 , which carries the cutting members of the tool. These cutting members are, in the example described, constituted by a removable blade 16 fixed to the spout 15 by two pins or screws 17, and by a flange 18 which serves as a support piece for cooperating with the cutting blade 16.

As shown more particularly in FIG. 3, the spout 14 has a bent profile and the flange or support piece 18 has a relatively wide, substantially planar surface, which opposes the lower surface 19 of the spout 15 carrying the blade 16.

The upper surface of the support piece 18 or the surface 19 which is opposite it can be individually or simultaneously grooved so as to allow better pinching or better gripping of the rod wedged between these two surfaces after being cut by the blade 16. The branch 12 comprises a rounded back portion 20, which adapts to the palm of the user's hand. The front surface 21 of the branch 11 has undulations which adapt to the fingers of the user's hand.

A spiral spring 22 is housed in the branch 11 of the handle 10, so that one of these ends bears against the branch 12 by surrounding a guide or retaining stud 23 secured to the branch 12.

La vue de dessus de la fig. 2 montre plus particulièrement le dos arrondi 20 de la poignée 12.The top view of fig. 2 shows more particularly the rounded back 20 of the handle 12.

In fig. 1, the tool is shown in the closed position using a loop 24 engaged in a suitable bore 25 formed in the vicinity of the lower end of the branch 11 of the handle 10. FIG. 4 shows the same tool in the open position. The locking loop 24 has been pivoted downwards so as to release the branch 12 from the handle 10 pushed back into its open position by the action of the thrust spring 22.

This tool is particularly simple in construction and proves to be extremely effective both for cutting and retaining tough stems after cutting. Although this invention is described with reference to a particular embodiment, it can undergo many modifications and variants obvious to those skilled in the art.
