Abstract

1,113,367. Horticultural knives. F. W. EARNEST. 8 March, 1967 [8 April, 1966; 27 Jan., 1967], No. 10938/67. Heading B4B. A device for cutting flower stems &c. comprises members 10, 11 of plastic engageable by the thumb and index finger of a user's hand, the members 10, 11 being connected to one another by a pivot 12 engageable in the crotch between the thumb and index finger of the hand, the member 10 having a base 15 to which is keyed a blade 16 having a bevelled portion 16a to form a cutting edge 17 and the member 11 having a base 23 provided with a groove 25 to engage the cutting edge 17, the groove having at one side an upstanding wall 26, the inner surface 27 of which constitutes the shear surface with which the cutting edge 17 coacts to cut the flower stem and having at the opposite side an upstanding wall 28, the upper surface of which has sawteeth 29, the inner edges of which are bevelled parallel to the bevelled blade portion 16a and grip the flower stem while it is being cut. The member 11 is provided at its rear end with a pair of laterally spaced ears 31 which embrace the rear portion of the blade 16. The rear portion of the blade is provided with a shoulder 20 having a notch 21 engageable by a flexible fin 32 on the base 23 to hold the members 10, 11 in their closed position. The member 10 is arcuately shaped at its front end 22.
