Abstract
807,438. Hand pruners; secateurs; scissors. WILKINSON SWORD Ltd., and RANDOLPH, H. B. May 18, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4926/54. Class 30. A pruning shear comprising mutually pivoted blades with associated handles has means preventing lateral separation of the blades secured to one handle at a position offset to one side of the connecting pivot and overlapping a portion of the blade secured to the other handle or overlapping the other handle at a portion where the other handle overlaps the blade to which it is secured. As shown, a cutting blade 10 and a thick-edged blade 12 secured to extensions 11a, 13a of handles 11, 13 are pivotally mounted on a bolt 14 having a nut 15 locked by a toothed washer 16. The head of a second bolt 17 locked by a nut 18 and toothed washer 19 overlaps the root 12a of the blade 12 to prevent lateral separation of the blades. In modifications, extensions of the handles are mutually pivoted centrally and a bolt preventing lateral separation is provided at each side of the pivot or the separationpreventing bolt is interleaved with the other handle or is replaced by an openended slot in which the other handle or the root of the other blade is received, an inclined cam surface being provided either on the wall of the slot or on the enclosed member to press the blades more firmly together as they approach the closed position.
