Abstract

331,327. Robertson, J. W. May 9, 1929. Lawn-mowers.-In a machine for trimming or cutting the edges of lawns &c. comprising shears actuated by a roller, the movable cutting blade of the shears is operated by a member connected to a crank or the equivalent driven from the roller through interposed gearing. The roller a is slightly tapered and is ribbed or roughened. It is mounted in a yoke-shaped frame e provided with an inclined handle q. The fixed blade g of the shears is detachably secured to one side of the frame and is preferably tapered. The movable blade h is pivoted on a bolt i passing through the frame and fixed cutter g and provided with a spring washer. It is actuated by a crank m and connecting-rod n, the crank being driven from the roller by an internal gear ring j and a pinion k, and the rod n being connected to a rearward extension o of the blade h. A grass receptacle may be detachably fastened to the fixed blade g. The lower edges of the frame e are of such shape as to allow of the. tipping forward of the machine to bring the blades under overhanging tufts of grass for lifting them.
