[Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Manganese sulphide is eliminated from pig iron produced in a Thomas furnace by subjecting the liquid iron to a rotary movement in a ladle as it is.tapped from the furnace and during its transport to the mixer. The ladle 1 is rotated in a ladle ear 3 by means of a motor 4, preferably at about 25 revolutions per minute.
